    Michael Vaughn. CIA agent. Patriot. A man's man, an American, an ex-husband. A soldier. A Boy Scout. A good guy.
    Where did the monster come from?
    A guy with a dark side. Vaughn's wife turned out to be a bad guy, and with the man she was cheating on Vaughn with (Julian Sark), tortured him for information. Which led to a big mess of Vaughn torturing Sark, trying to kill his wife and then finally killing her, ending the downward spiral by burning his house down before coming in through the Rift. He's in no way over all that, as much as he would like to be. Oh, also? A demon pretended to be his girlfriend for a little bit before trying to eat him. Yeeeah. He's kinda pissed about that too. He's not having a good time in the Rift, mostly.
